The Two Kinds of Insomnia and Why It Matters

Light is the other strong lever. Rebound Insomnia and Coming Off

A night or two of worse-than-usual sleep after stopping a sleeping tablet is rebound insomnia — expected, temporary, and not evidence that the original problem has returned. Misreading it is the commonest reason a two-week course becomes a two-year one.

Knowing it is coming is most of the defence. Plan the stop for a stretch without important early mornings, expect two or three unremarkable nights, and taper in place of stopping abruptly after a long course. If sleep has genuinely not settled after a couple of weeks, that is worth a conversation in place of a return to the tablets on your own initiative.

What Else Keeps People Awake

It also frequently reveals a pattern the person had not noticed themselves, which is often the most useful outcome.

How the Right Option Gets Chosen

Prescribers weigh what your symptoms actually look like across a day, what else you take, your kidney and liver function, your age, and what has already been tried and failed.
